VOLUNTEERS

We have had an overwhelming response from an ad placed on do-it.org (thanks Peter!) for volunteers for Sed*8. Over 40 people have so far asked to get involved. The question is now what to do with them all.

Today will be spent leafing through applications, we'll be organising a volunteers evening on Wednesday the 5th of June to meet everyone and discuss how best to get them involved.

www.sed8magazine.com

After several small hiccups our website is finally on the road to completion. You can check out the holding page.. but not much else yet I'm afraid.. at www.sed8magazine.com.

We are hoping to have the rest up and running in about a week.. woo hoo.

VENUES!!

We seem to have finalised our venues for our summer workshops which is really good news!! Skyway, www.skyway.uk.com, the Hackney-based charity that our photography workshop facilitators Emily works for have just opened a new premesis on City Road which is just within the environs of Hackney, down towards Islington way.

There they have a brand new Mac suite and a small darkroom as well as several classrooms and common rooms. We have yet to finalise dates but Skyway have agreed to let us use the building which is sweet..

Whas guanin..

Where are we now?

Well, at the moment we're recruiting workshop facilitators to run our eight week workshops in journalism, photography and graphic design.

So far so good.. we have Toby Renton and Alex Breeden running the graphic design. Toby has done a lot of work running workshops at PRU schools in film production, aerosolic art (this means graff i think) and drawing practice and has worked on research campaigns for Westminster University and more recently an Anti-knife campaign for Forsters charity. Alex worked until very recently for the Independent on Sunday, has a lot of professional experience and loads of contacts within the industry.

Phil Clarke Hill (www.philclarkehill.com) is managing the Sed*8 school side of things and co-running the project and also facilitating our photography workshops with Emily Graham. Emily works for Skyway which is a charity that supports young people from 8 to 25 in Hackney. She has run workshops with Skyway in photography and is also an experienced photographer working in fashion and documentary photography.

On the journalism side we have Luiza Sauma who also worked at the Independent on Sunday and is now a freelance journalist. We are still recruiting for the second position on the journalism facilitators team and are looking for someone with a good bit of experience in working with young people and running creative workshops.
